About the event
The Grid Technology Development (GTD) labs at SCE’s Westminster Fenwick facility support grid technology demonstrations, evaluations, proof-of-concept validations, and pre-deployment testing in a highly specialized fully integrated lab environment. The labs assess connected grid technologies, automation, communications, and cybersecurity systems. The tour will provide a glimpse of how SCE tests these emerging technologies ranging from substations all the way to customer meters, including:
Advanced grid simulation technologies that can better sense anomalies to support wildfire mitigation
New substation equipment that is more capable, yet requires less wires, helping reduce costs for our customers
Enhanced communication and control technologies for greater grid resilience to reduce customer outages
Next generation meters that can provide higher quality information and customer control to help customers manage their energy better
