ACC-OC's Executive Director Kris Murray recently participated in the Urban Land Institute’s Orange County Emerging Trends event, featuring a distinguished panel discussion on key developments and challenges shaping the region’s real estate, economy, and infrastructure. Panelists included Shaheen Sadeghi, CEO and Founder of LAB Holding, and Bill Shopoff, Founder, President, and CEO of Shopoff Realty Investments, who brought forward impactful insights on market trends, community development, and innovative economic development solutions. The discussion underscored ACC-OC’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and addressing the evolving needs of Orange County.

 



Clay Lacy Aviation has begun construction on a major infrastructure project at John Wayne Airport, the largest in its history. A key feature is the environmentally focused Fixed-Base Operator (FBO), set to be the first ISI Envision Gold Certified facility, emphasizing sustainability with solar power, EV and electric aircraft charging, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Additionally, the site will house the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Air Support Unit, enhancing public safety. The project supports economic growth with new jobs and scholarships for aspiring aviation professionals.

CalOptima Health


CalOptima Health has awarded $5.1 million to strengthen the behavioral health workforce in Orange County. This funding will support six organizations—Child Guidance Center Inc., Children’s Hospital of Orange County, John Henry Foundation, Seneca Family of Agencies, Special Service for Groups Inc., and Western Youth Services. The goal is to increase the number of trained professionals addressing mental health and substance use challenges among the county's Medi-Cal population. This initiative follows an earlier $24.6 million investment in April 2024, part of a broader $50 million plan over five years. CalOptima aims to enhance recruitment, training, and retention of health professionals, focusing on the county’s most urgent needs to ensure equitable healthcare access for nearly 914,000 members.

City of Orange

Orange County Transportation Authority


The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) recently held its Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony, celebrating the service of military veterans within its workforce. The event honored 67 veterans in various roles, from coach operators to administrative staff. OCTA highlighted the veterans' contributions, recognizing the discipline and dedication they bring to public transportation. The ceremony featured the Santa Ana High School Navy Junior ROTC, and special tokens of appreciation were given to veterans. OCTA is committed to recruiting veterans and working with local educational institutions and military organizations for smooth career transitions.



 

City of Laguna Beach


The Laguna Beach City Council has partnered with Visit Laguna Beach for a ten-year, $5.5 million revitalization plan for the Downtown area. This initiative will see annual contributions of $500,000 from Visit Laguna Beach starting in fiscal year 2025-26, with the funds supporting infrastructure improvements, beautification projects, and artist spaces. An initial $500,000 is slated for fiscal year 2024-25, emphasizing upgrades that benefit both residents and visitors. The project aims to enhance community experience and economic vitality while reflecting local cultural heritage.


 

Department of Labor


This grant opportunity is designed to support projects that improve environmental health outcomes in underserved communities, focusing on reducing environmental hazards and addressing health disparities. The funding encourages community-based solutions and aims to enhance public health by tackling environmental risks, with eligibility open to both public and private applicants. It provides a chance to engage local populations and create long-term benefits through targeted environmental interventions.


 

California Energy Commission


 The California Electric Vehicle Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator (EVC RAA) Program focuses on repairing and replacing non-functional EV chargers to ensure their reliability and accessibility. The program offers $59.5 million in funding to businesses, public agencies, and other eligible entities to meet the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) standards.



 

Department of Transportation

 

The FY 2025-26 Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant provides funding for local and regional transportation planning projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting climate resilience. The program encourages initiatives that support sustainable, multimodal transportation systems and align with state environmental goals. A total of $29.5 million is available across various categories, including sustainable communities and climate adaptation planning.



 


Department of Housing and Community Development

 

The 2023 Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) offers $296 million to local governments for projects focused on affordable housing development, homelessness services, and housing rehabilitation. Eligible activities include building rental units, providing supportive services for homeless individuals, and improving housing affordability for low-income households. Funding supports local strategies for housing accessibility and is intended to help meet state housing and climate goals. Applicants must align with state housing priorities for the funding.
